難民を助ける会（ちなみに愚妻は会長、私は特別顧問）の宮崎淳くんがトルコでなくなってから約2年、このほど、イスタンブールの一角に、その名を冠した公園ができ、10月5日、現地の要人と福田啓二イスタンブール日本総領事などが参加して、開園式が行われた。
共同通信から英語と日本語で報道され、産経、Japan Timesなどが掲載した。
こんなにも親切なトルコの人々の厚意を受けると、2020のオリンピックはイスタンブールに譲ってもよかったと、心にもないことをふと考えてしまった。トルコのみなさん、ありがとう。
トルコで2011年に地震被災地の支援活動中に死亡したNPO職員宮崎淳さん＝当時（41）＝の遺志を伝えようと、名前を冠した日本庭園「アツシ・ミヤザキ・パルク（公園）」が西部イスタンブール郊外のサルエル市に完成し、５日、開園式典が行われた。宮崎さんの胸像も除幕された。
サルエル市のシュクル・ゲンチ市長は「宮崎さんは普遍的な価値と人道のために命を落とした英雄で、トルコ社会の息子になった。安らかにお眠りください」と追悼。福田啓二イスタンブール総領事は「この庭園が両国民の友好関係の新たな礎となることを深く確信している」と述べた。
宮崎さんは11年10月にトルコ東部ワン周辺で起きた大地震の直後から、NPO法人「難民を助ける会」メンバーとして現地で支援活動に当たり、同11月、滞在中のホテルが余震で倒壊して亡くなった。（共同）

Turks honor Japanese hero
ISTANBUL – A park commemorating a Japanese aid worker who died there while helping Turkish victims of a major earthquake in 2011 opened Saturday in the suburbs of Istanbul.
Atsushi Miyazaki, who was a member of the nonprofit Association for Aid and Relief, Japan, was in Turkey in November 2011 to support relief activities after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Turkey on Oct. 23 that year.
He died after the hotel he was staying at collapsed during an aftershock on Nov. 10. He was 41.
“Mr. Miyazaki is a hero who lost his life while working on humanitarian activities, and he became a son of Turkey. May he rest in peace,” said the mayor of Sariyer at the opening ceremony for Atsushi Miyazaki Park.
At the ceremony, a bust of Miyazaki was also unveiled.
Keiji Fukuda, consul general of the Japanese Consulate in Istanbul, said that he was “confident that the park will become a new foundation to promote friendship between the two countries.”
Miyazaki’s death has been widely reported many times in Turkey, and his name has been attached to several facilities in his honor.
Another AAR Japan staffer, Miyuki Konnai, who was staying in the same hotel, was rescued and survived the aftershock
宮崎氏が殉職したことはこれまでもトルコではたびたび報道され、その名はさまざまな形で付され、顕彰されている。AARの同僚であり、当時、事故に遭った同じホテルに宿泊していた近内みゆきさんは救急隊員により命をとりとめた。
